we love pops' home. unlike some of the celebrity houses we see in pictures, hers has a homey and very inviting appeal.

although ecletic, it has the right mix and matches of furnishings and adornments.

what i liked most is the presence of green plants and her pocket garden which gives it a more soothing and relaxing appeal.


the facade may look formidable and regal-bearing - befitting its celebrity owner but like pops, it's not stiff and boring. i'd like to term it as cool and subtle elegance.

if there's one person which looked so much like pops, it's her dad, the late eddie fernandez and pops' eldest son, robin nievera.

Yes!! I stayed up just to watch her host the show.

I stayed up a little after midnight just to watch our dear PIPAY hosting the first Philippine International Ballroom Competition. YeP! I did it 'coz I loved watching our dear POPS!


As always she looked gorgeous, beautiful and sexy! I liked her dress better than ruffa's.
I must say our dear Pops always has impecable taste in fashion! Yes, I really loved her dress and the way her hair was done. Her make-up was perfect. Plus, she always has this natural way about hosting. She talks just as naturally and effortlessly. Galing!!!In other words, pro talaga si PIPAY when it comes to hosting. Si ruffa kasi, halatang trying hard.


Pops' fluent english just comes naturally...parang she's born and destined to be the greatest host in the land. To this day, no one comes close to her perfect craft in hosting. I just wish she will be given another tv show that truly fits her status as the best in the land!!!!


Aside from the obvious reason of watching POPS on the show, I actually enjoyed seeing the contestants do their stuff. It's really entertaining..ang galing nilang sumayaw! I've always loved dancing but I never have the time to enroll into a dancing class.... I was so amazed at how they bend their bodies to the beat of the music. Work of art talaga ang mga dances nila!

The Biggest Risks Pops Took

These are some of my own views as a fan and a keen Pops observer:


1. Petitioning for Annulment of her Marriage to Martin Nievera


We all knew that in our society, men are given better opportunities even after separation or divorce or even after committing an adulterous liaison which is the case of Pops' ex.


People most especially their multitudes of fans - me included though i have always been a solid pops only since day 1 up to this time have thought that theirs is a match made in heaven and seemingly like a fairytale that has forever clauses. unfortunately not.

Now, almost eight years after, and with some fans now living elsewhere in the globe, Pops is still here and busy in her career.

Even she has admitted thru the YES mag revelation last october 2007 that she never thought that she will be able to perform again and alone at that. afterall, it has always been a Martin and Pops tandem to beat.


After a series of romantic but short-lived liaisons, now Pops enjoys a quiet two-year relationship with fellow celebrity Jomari Yllana... Like Pops, Jomari had a bitter-sweet taste of marriage and separation and a series of failed relationships.

Hopefully, theirs would last and end up in a second plunge into Holy Matrimony.



2. Changing Manager and Handler from Mom Dulce to ALV


Since 1982 to early 2005, Pops was managed by her own Mom, Ms. Dulce Lukban and her DSL Productions. All the very successful concerts that catapulted Pops into the Concert scene and made her the ORIGINAL and UNDISPUTED CONCERT QUEEN of the land is under her mom's wings.

like any other artist, Pops gambled and dreamed for more reinventions and challenges which were not yet explored.

almost some of her next generation artists are not mounting their own concerts and some press people are almost always calling every next very successful female artist as the new concert queen of the land. much to us fans' ire and irritation. it is not like a boxing game where a player always have to defend his crown and boxing title nor is it a beauty title where the outgoing beauty titlist will relinquish her crown and scepter to a new beauty queen. celebrities have earned their places under the sun so to speak just like the titles 'superstar' for nora aunor; 'star for all seasons' for vilma santos; 'megastar' for sharon cuneta, 'diamond star' for maricel soriano, etc. etc.

among the popular divas of the land, each also earned their own respective titles - 'asia's songbird' for regine velasquez; 'pop diva' for kuh ledesma; 'asia's nightingale' for lani misalucha; 'divine diva' for zsa zsa padilla and 'queen of soul' for jaya ramsey.

pops is the original and undisputed CONCERT QUEEN of the philippines and she will always be considering her unmatched record to this day.

each entertainer or singer is good as his/her last performance and the staying power for more than two decades is enough to allow her a niche and stature already.

looking at the sudden shift in her talent management and despite some inadevertent misunderstandings, all's well between mom and her darling ward. afterall, theirs is an ideal mom and daughter relationship.

Under ALV's wings, Pops has added several feathers in her cap as one of the most sought after corporate performers and events host and most of all, global tour concert performer.

From movies, to TV guestings, to any high profile media and product launches, Pops earned a lot of media mileage.

A much-publicized FHM cover, a villainess movie role, a new album and a major anniversary concert are just small proofs of how ALV has mapped out a new blueprint for tapping Pops' new career zones....

We fans could only wish that Pops would soon be visible again in our television sets and in the big screen....


3. Portraying a sexy villainess role

now here is another big risk for Pops. this has been a subject of debates and dissenting opinions of people - her fans included. not a few of us have remarked that Pops should not have agreed to the role for fear that when it became successful, she might be typecasted and relegated to supporting roles as the nemesis of the lead stars.

the outfits as Queen Femina Suarestellarbaroux and her English twang befits her and her acting as well...

unfortunately, the movie failed to make a killing in the box office despite good critic reviews and accolades.



perhaps, the country is not prepared for this type of film genres.

i guess, Pops should stick to tried and tested female roles and different film genres.

4. Deciding to be a Freelancer

Nobody thought that after more than a decade of being loyal to a network like ABS-CBN of which she is a pioneer celebrity that held many shows would Pops decide to leave ABS and her long-time running show, ASAP.

Pops has always been a favorite part of our sunday afternoon relaxation at home. Until she went out, we failed to note that perhaps, she might want to do other things other than being a part of the now smorgasboard show.

The network ratings war then between abs-cbn and GMA were not as big as now. But when Pops left abs, and shortly joined tha rival kapuso channel, it seems to me that Pops carried the lady luck for shortly, GMA has took over the number one slot until now.

Unfortunately, the kapuso channel also somehow have some misgivings and they failed to provide Pops better shows and offers.

She was given two primetime shows but was only part again of the smorgasboard casts.

Since the two networks are now in a close fight for supremacy, Pops returned to another former mother station - ABC 5 and was able to get two shows - "Singgaling ni Pops" - a show which she just took over when ai ai delas alas resigned and "Pops!" which is a show more befitting her hosting prowess.

Between the two, it is the latter show which has promises and given more time and perhaps, media mileage could have rated well within the next seasons.

The major setback of ABC 5 was that it does not have the media connection and advertising clouts which the two giant networks enjoy.

And so, we fans were all sad that we have to miss seeing Pops in our daily TV habit.

The advantages if one would see it, is that Pops will be able to guest in the shows of both the two network giants.

However, with our present slump in the local showbizlandia, having a regular TV exposure is a must to sustain additional offers and further media mileage.

Some lesser and minor stars are enjoying these.

4. Accepting more daring multi-media roles

a. Doing more movies with daring roles

after separation with Martin and the grant of her annulment, Pops accepted more challenging and daring roles - as a victim of an infidel husband in "Linlang" and again as a victim of another ruthless and user for a husband in "Gusto ko nang Lumigaya".

A few were surprised but since these movies have made good reviews, it was well worth it for Pops. she even earned acting nominations for "linlang".

b. Posing for FHM

now, this one really made the headlines. not a few are surprised and questioning why Pops accepted such a bait from a men's magazine - with no less than ex-husband martin overreacting and acting still like a dear old hubby throwing a mouthful that he is unhappy with Pops' decision.

add insult to injury, this became a WORD WAR I for Pops and Martin.

somehow, the advantage it generated was people saw Pops on another light as an ageless woman and an "IT" girl forever.

now more than ever, 40 is the new 25 for women like Pops....

Pops' Best seller magazine cover story

undoubtedly, this magazine cover story is for the books. since its circulation, it has always been part of everyone's conversation and sometimes, discussions.


we thought we knew how the fairytale wedding ended but pops proved that we were all wrong.

nevertheless, this is a way of catharsis for her and moving on and feeling better after....

Pops unmade up

it never fails to make me note of how pops exudes beauty with or without glam of cosmetics. some celebrities were not as lucky when they appear without make-ups on their faces. i know some of them but would rather not name them.


they say true beauty can be seen minus the thick foundations and splashes of colors here and there... and that's what pops is....

through the years, she has grown and matured but nary you see that her beauty faded.... it's as if she already found the elixir to youth and timeless glow.

sometimes, i even loved her better sans make-up....

Pops and Kuh: The most sought after duo

after the very successful series of shows here and abroad of the country's ORIGINAL CONCERT QUEEN ms. pops fernandez and the pop diva ms. kuh ledesma, one can only deduce that indeed, theirs is the most sought after pair here and overseas.

the pop diva has always hold a power of two series. through the years, she was able to hold shows here and abroad too with the following:

queen of soul, jaya ramsey

superstar nora aunor

the divine diva zsa zsa padilla

and of course, the concert queen, ms. pops fernandez

after seeing the two of them perform the motown medley in pops' very successful DIVALICIOUS concert last december 8, 2007 at the big dome, i certainly agree that theirs is a well-synched duo. kuh's powerful but just right vocal prowess is a perfect blend to the concert queen's radio friendly voice.

what makes these duo more remarkable is their seemingly "give and take partnership" which is indeed a plus factor. add to this is their unique and very trendy fashion flair that make their every performance worth watching for.

one can only surmise that pops and kuh or kuh and pops in all aspects as entertainers are in perfect harmony.

Ballroom dancing aficionados will get a treat this Sunday, February 24, when ABS-CBN airs a TV special that features the country's first ever open international ballroom dance event. Titled Philippine StarBall, this TV show will be hosted by Pops Fernandez and Ruffa Gutierrez.


The Philippines opens its shore to all dancing stars of the world, to be in front of an audience of natural-born dancers. The ABS-CBN Special Projects Group in cooperation with the Council of United Professional Dance Teachers of the Philippines, Inc. (CUPDTP) bring Philippine StarBall, which showcases the most excellent performers in competitive ballroom dancing.


The competition will have the top names of international ballroom dancing, with adjudicators and competitors flying in from different parts of the globe. It will be hosted by the country's most sought after female entertainers, concert queen Ms. Pops Fernandez and beauty queen Ms.
Ruffa Gutierrez as well as premier choreographer to the stars Maribeth Bichara.


The Philippine StarBall will feature various ballroom dances: the Standard—Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep and the Latin—Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive, for various age groups.


Two international personalities who are part of the 1st Philippine StarBall as adjudicator and emcee for live event are Charlotte Jorgensen and Gary McDonald, respectively. Interestingly, they were part of the production of the Hollywood movie, Shall We Dance? which starred Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.


Expect to see astonishing performances by select foreign and local competitors clad in their lovely, elegant evening ball gowns, capped off by their graceful, powerful moves and performances.


Special guests are Nick and Lena Kosovich. Nick is a professional ballroom dancer specializing with American Smooth/TenDance and is noted for his participation in ABC's Dancing with the Stars. He has also appeared in several movies such as Shall We Dance?, Everyone Says I Love You, Blue in the Face and Only With You. This Australian ballroom dancer resides in New York with his wife and dance partner, Lena. Meanwhile, Maxim Kozevnikov in a solo number gives us a taste of Russian folk dance.


Lending their expertise, knowledge and quick eye for ball room dancing, the adjudicators for the night are Shirley Ballas (England), Charlotte Jorgensen and Irina Suvorov (USA), Catia Vanone (Italy), Espen Salberg (Norway), Richard Morrisey (Australia), Wantanee Kanchana (Thailand), Ron Bennett (USA), John Lim (Malaysia), Mikhail Pavlinov (Russia), Aleena Tan (Singapore), Stephen Hannah (England), Gloria Alcala and Chona Mercado (Philippines). Agnes Ang will serve as the scrutineer for the night.

Watch the 1st Philippine StarBall this Sunday, February 24, on Sunday's Best (after That's My Doc) and witness international ballroom dancing at its finest.


This event was organized by the Chairman of the 1st Philippine Starball Organizing Committee, Ms. Pinky Puno and the President of the Council of United Professional Dance Teachers of the Philippines, Jojo Cariño. Pops being courted by a Sta. Lucia player? By BOY VILLASANTA abs-cbnNEWS.com How true is it that a basketball player is courting the very much attached singer-actress Pops "The Concert Queen" Fernandez? The rumors apparently started when the Concert Queen was spotted in Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night, rooting for the Sta. Lucia Realtors squad which is in the running for the Philippine Basketball Association finals. According to one source, Fernandez came as a "special guest" of the team. "Special request siya ng Sta. Lucia. Parang inspiration kumbaga para manalo sila. (Her presence was a special request of the Sta. Lucia team. The players look at her as an inspiration to help them win)," said the source. Local showbiz is a-buzz however that Fernandez received "special treatment" from one particular Sta. Lucia cager. "Special ang treatment kay Pops ng basketball player dahil alam mo naman ‘yan, talagang malakas ang dating sa mga boys kahit na younger than her. (Pops received special treatment from the basketball player; you know how irresistible she is to younger guys)," confided one informant who works for ABC Sports. Fernandez came early to the game, obviously without boyfriend actor Jomari Yllana. According to people close to her, she does like basketball but doesn’t usually watch the game. Sources add that that for some reason, couldn't say no to the invitation. They said Fernandez went out of her way to squeeze the game into her schedule, purportedly to keep a promise to a "friend." So is it true that a Sta. Lucia player is courting Pops? "’Yan nga ang usap-usapan sa buong PBA ngayon. Isang player ang talagang nais makasama nang matagal si Pops. Pero pag tinanong mo naman ang mga taga-Sta. Lucia, deny-to-death kahit na may isa ro’n na nanlalaki ang mga mata pag nakikita si Pops," the informant revealed. (That is the talk in the PBA. One player is supposedly deadset about spending time with Pops. But if you ask people from the Sta. Lucia team, they all deny it, although one of them obviously keeps oggling Pops.) The rumors follow at the heels of earlier buzz linking Yllana to a certain "beautiful lady from the South". Fernandez however has denied that she and Jomari are going through rough times. "Mararamdaman ko naman kung talagang totoo ang mga tsismis. (I would be able to feel it if the rumors about Jomari are true)," Fernandez said in a previous interview.

hmmm... seems to me that pops is more on the quiet front these days.... Good for her... after that much talked about spat with her ex-husband martin last july till early January of this year, pops enjoys a quieter stance....

but indirectly, i can't help but think of how pops will react to the present 'intrigues' hounding some of her closest friends in showbiz which hugs the limelight and headlines even sometimes eclipsing the more pressing national issues and concerns....

case # 1 - the gretchen barretto-nadia montenegro rift

pops is close to both. gretch is part of the current showbiz barkada of pops along with ruffa gutierrez and ruffa mae quinto.

nadia on the other hand is a close friend and kumare of pops (to pops' best buddy liezl martinez' youngest daughter alissa martinez) and i think a good friend also of pops' current beau jomari yllana..

kunsabagay, knowing pops, she would rather keep quiet and neutral and would just wish that her two friends will be able to fix their fiasco..

case # 2 - the regine velasquez big switch(?) from being a kapuso to kapamilya

for almost two weeks now, regine is hugging the headlines for admitting that indeed, there are offers from both ABS-CBN and GMA and that she is ambivalent about it.

altho last monday, it was reported that she will stay with GMA but still the rumors persist.

will she or will she not?

pops for her part might have better suggestions for her close pal regine. afterall, she had a first hand experience herself when she transferred from being a kapamilya to kapuso and now, as a freelancer.....

the network war is really at its hottest so regine's decision might add insult to injury so to speak....

I missed the first 4 albums but i have the rest.

After all these years of being a popsfanatic, I still can't get enough of our dear concert queen!! Ms. Pops has always been one of the most sought after celebrities in our counrty and she will always continue to fascinate and gain admiration from people. Her beauty, talent and grace always makes her ahead of her peers and even the newcomers. NO ONE IS LIKE HER!!! I LOVE POPS FOREVER!!!!!

Why a Blog for Popsfans?

Being a frequent net surfer, I am aware that having a blogsite comes in handy - whether to get information, share whatever you wanted to share or simply just read anything under the sun.

In all the twenty-five years that I have been a secret fan of the Concert Queen, it was my earnest goal to share and be able to get info as well on her - trivias, current updates, sometimes, inside infos if permitted.

Beginning 2000, after her much-hyped separation from her ex-husband, I became more active as a fan and hence, made first attempts in webmaking which was an "in thing" incidentally also up to this period.

The chance to be a moderator of a Yahoogroup also came more handy and resulting in a critical mass of both silent and active global fans of the concert queen who up to this day never failed to be so eager to get updates and information on the said celebrity.

I am on the verge of redoing a website which hopefully will withstand any software and technical glitches especially in publishing it afterwards.

As i often visit several blogsites with her sometimes as a favorite staple or topic, it gave me an idea of putting up one for the present group that I am moderating. The advantages are great - it is free. It has both the features of a webpage and a mailing list combined.

It is at this period where I decided to join the bandwagon of bloggers in the net. I told myself, why not a blogsite for her and most of all, my fellow Pops fanatics or ka-pops as my friend Ricky would call all the Pops fans around the globe.

And so this blog is now born....

I would like to thank some very good friends who unknowingly has provided me the motivation and inspiration to do it.

Last but not the least, to the reason and inspiration why this was born, the ORIGINAL CONCERT QUEEN, MS. POPS FERNANDEZ!
